The Grainlander to Quambatook and the Silo Cinema

Travel with 707 Operations on The Grainlander for an overnight slow rail cruise to country Victoria which will promise you fun and excitement that you won’t easily forget. You’ll leave us refreshed with lasting memories and new found friends as we travel to Quambatook with our heritage diesel hauled sleeping carriage train

Our heritage diesel hauled sleeping carriage train will depart Melbourne Southern Cross at 7.50 am on Saturday morning. Upon departure, breakfast will be served as we journey away from the bustling city, passing Ballarat, Maryborough and Korong Vale before sunset.

On arrival into Quambatook, enjoy a delightful dinner in this charming small town which has a population of just 249 residents. After dinner, at twilight, make your way to the Quambatook grain silo for a movie screening on the unique outdoor cinema. Dress in your best 80’s gear and enjoy this unique experience under the glorious Mallee night sky. Into the late evening, enjoy refreshments in the club carriage and then retire to your sleeping compartment for a comfortable (and stationary) nights rest.

On Sunday morning, after a delightful breakfast service our train will slowly return to Melbourne, pausing for about two hours at Inglewood to allow all guests the opportuinuty to explore the township and surrounds at your own pace. We then continue, with brief stops at Maryborough and Ballarat. From Ballarat, our journey returns to Melbourne via the via Ballarat to North Geelong freight only track. On the return we will offer Geelong based passengers the option to leave the service at North Shore. North Shore offers regional V/Line connections to intermediate stations that are not served by our train, or to Geelong, Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool.

The Grainlander train will arrive back into Melbourne’s Southern Cross station at 6.20 pm on Sunday, in time to connect with the late-night V/Line and Metro Trains services to take you home after this amazing slow rail cruise.
